Signs You Need a Nervous System Reset (And How I Do Mine)
Lately, I’ve been feeling… a little off. Not fully burned out yet…but getting close. When I notice myself getting extra sensitive, tired but restless, or carrying tension in my jaw and shoulders, that’s my signal. My nervous system is asking for a reset.
If you’ve been feeling that way too, you're not alone. Here are some signs to look out for, and a few gentle things I do to feel calm and grounded again.
Signs Your Nervous System Might Be Overwhelmed
You feel wired but tired.
You flinch or get overwhelmed by little things like sounds or notifications.
You’re more emotional than usual or snapping at things that wouldn’t normally bother you.
Your body feels tense—especially your shoulders, jaw, or gut.
Your sleep doesn’t feel restful.
You just don’t feel like yourself.
If any of those sound familiar, this is your reminder to pause. Your body isn’t being dramatic—it’s trying to keep you safe.
How I Reset My Nervous System (With a Few Cozy Favorites)
1. Chamomile oil on the wrists and a deep breath
I use this Calm Essential Oil Roll-On when I need to pause and breathe. It’s a gentle blend with chamomile, lavender, and clary sage—perfect for moments when everything feels a little too much.
2. Heat around my shoulders
A warm compress always helps me feel safe and settled. I love this lavender-scented shrimp neck wrap—it’s quirky but so comforting. The scent + weight = instant exhale.
3. Gua sha to release tension
When my jaw is tight or I’m feeling disconnected from my body, I reach for this rose quartz gua sha tool. A few slow strokes along my cheeks and neck help melt away built-up stress.
4. Gentle soundscapes in the background
I keep this white noise machine on my nightstand. It has rain sounds, ocean waves, and more—and it’s way more relaxing than my phone. Just turning it on makes my space feel calmer.
5. Tea in a beautiful glass mug
Sipping tea from something pretty always lifts my mood. This glass infuser tumbler keeps my herbal blends warm and makes the whole moment feel more special. I love using it during facials or in between sessions too.
6. A good book to help me unplug
When I need to escape my own thoughts, I pick up a cozy read. Right now I’m loving Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry—it’s funny, warm, and full of charm. Exactly the kind of story that helps me unwind.
You Deserve to Feel Calm
Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is listen to what our body is trying to tell us. You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t have to wait until you’re burnt out.
If your nervous system is feeling tender lately, I hope this list gives you permission to pause.
